Winter Camp

This ATV ride allowed us to visit the ruins of a ranch known as Winter Camp and to get a unique view of the Bruneau Canyon from a different perspective.

Starting in the little town of Bruneau, take Hot Springs Road to the southeast.  The road will have a sign for the Bruneau Canyon.

After about 8.2 miles, take the paved Clover Three Creek Road to the left.   After about 7.5 miles, there will be a road to the right that will take you to the Bruneau Canyon overlook.  Continue driving on Clover Three Creek Road.

After about 12 miles, arrive at coordinates: 42° 33.96 north, 115° 30.07' west.   From this point on, it will require a four-wheel drive vehicle with high ground clearance.  I unloaded my ATV here.  Take the road on your right heading south.

After 0.4 miles you will reach an intersection, coordinates: 42° 33.67 north, 115° 30.36' west.   Continue going straight.

You come to a rocky, steep downhill.  After 0.6 miles, arrive at Winter Camp, coordinates: 42° 33.20 north, 115° 30.36' west.

After exploring these neat ranch ruins, continue down the jeep trail about 6 miles.  Park your vehicle and walk about a mile to the west to reach the canyon overlook.

Please do not travel cross-country to reach the canyon rim; stay on existing roads and trails.

Leaving the ATV to hike to the canyon rim; it is pretty flat !

Another rock cairn, like we saw outside of Wickahoney
