Jordan Craters
Just to the northwest of Jordan Valley, Oregon is one of the west's most recent lava flows Jordan Craters.
Virtually no plants have been reestablished on the lava. You can access the entire lava flow and all of Coffee Pot Crater and it is a very unique experience visiting this area.
Safety notice:
There are no guard rails anywhere and the cinder surfaces can be very slippery. You can fall a long way.
Once on the lava flow, there are open lava tubes which are essentially caves you can fall into. Extra care is needed here.
Leave Marsing, Idaho on US 95. Just south of Jordan Valley will be a sign for the road to Jordan Craters. Take this road to the west and stay on it for about 11.5 miles. At the end, it will curve to the south and you can see the side trail which goes to the parking area. You should be able to make this drive with most vehicles.
