Hazard Lakes Basin

Lloyd's Lake

North of McCall, Idaho you find the Hazard Lakes Basin.   There are a dozen or so lakes in the area including: Hazard Lake, Big Hazard Lake, and Upper Hazard Lake.    In this incredibly rugged country, this basin has hiking trails which are surprisingly flat and easy to walk on.  The larger lakes have established campgrounds and there are abundant fishing areas.

The easiest access to this area is following the road to Brundage Ski Resort.  Continue up the road to Brundage Reservoir.  At the south end of the reservoir, turn left to drive to Goose Lake.  From Goose Lake, continue on this road to Hazard Lakes Basin.

We were exploring with our ATV on this trip, and we accessed Goose Lake from New Meadows, Idaho riding through the Last Chance Campground.  It was a non-technical ride and provided some great views of the New Meadows valley.

Continue driving along the east shore of Goose Lake.  There are restrooms available along the road by the lake.  This road continues all of the way to the Hazard Lakes Basin.    This photo will give you a good idea about the quality of the road at Goose Lake.

There are numerous waterfalls along the way.

Big Hazard Lake

Once reaching the Hazard Lakes Basin, there are multiple campgrounds and access points to the lakes.

We rode in on our ATV so we continued riding north until we found a jeep trail that dropped down into one of the basins.

After several miles, we encountered a bridge which had be washed-out so we could go no further.  Getting off the ATV I immediately found bear tracks and wolf tracks.  This is wild country.
