Mineral City Ghost Town

Located in the south end of Hell's Canyon, on the Idaho side, is the ghost town of Mineral City.  The drive into Mineral is quite easy and it takes you to a location that you have probably never visited.  There are numerous buildings remaining.

This area of Hell's Canyon has a high density of Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes, be watchful.

Many of the red-orange leaved plants seen in these photos are poison ivy; be watchful.

Start this trip from Weiser, Idaho.  

Take County Road 70 from where it intersects with US 95 on the north side of the Snake River and drive west-northwest until intersecting with Jonathan Road.   

Turn right on Jonathan Road (north) and drive for about 22.8 miles.  A road will take off away from Brownlee Reservoir to the right.  Mineral City is about 2 miles up this road.

This road can be followed over the top of the ridge and it will eventually come out near Cambridge, Idaho.  There are many jeep trails in this region and care must be taken to plan out a route before attempting.
