Celebration Park
Celebration Park lies on the Snake River just upstream of Walter's Ferry, Idaho. There are two unique attractions of this park:
There are massive boulders known as watermelon gravel which were polished round during the Bonneville Flood some 17,000 years ago.
Many of these boulders have petroglyphs on them and it is amazing to see these remnants of a long-past civilization.
There is a small visitors center, restrooms, camping areas, picnic areas, and a boat launch at the park.
There are numerous hiking trails in the area including ones to Halverson Lake. This lake is situated about 100 feet above the river level on the east side of the park. I remember hiking into here and camping there when I was in Boy Scouts, a very long time ago.
The most direct route into the park is to follow South CanAda Road / Happy Valley Road to the south. As you approach the Snake River canyon rim, there will be signs to the park. Note that as you drive south on South CanAda Road / Happy Valley Road you need to take a short jog to the east when you intersect Initial Point Road. Turn south again after a hundred yards or so.
