Custer, Bonanza, and Bayhorse

Bonanza, Custer, and Bayhorse, Idaho are ghost towns that lie north of Stanley.  


Starting at Stanley, Idaho, state highway 75 to the northeast.   When you reach Sunbeam, Idaho, turn left and drive north for about 8 miles.


Bonanza will be the first town you arrive at.  There if very little remaining at this location.

Continuing down the road, you will encounter the impressive Yankee Fork Gold Dredge.  This amazing piece of machinery has multiple kiosks describing its operation.

Continuing a little further down the road and you reach Custer, Idaho.  Many of the buildings can be toured with detailed information regarding their history.

Return to state highway 75 and turn left and stay on the highway for about 33 miles.  There will be a marked turn-off to the left.  You slowly climb about 1,000 feet in elevation to the Bayhorse, Idaho townsite.


There is much remaining of Bayhorse and there is a wonderful walking path around the town with descriptive plaques.


There are abundant ATV and motorcycle trails in the vicinity.
